Patti on 2019-08-08 at 12:03 Oh… Lawd… TOTALLY agree. In fact, here’s a true story about the WORST presenter I’ve ever seen doing this. He was some “hot shot” university professor from the US (we are in Canada) and he started off by saying “I don’t like to talk from the stage, I like to be in the crowd and moving around…” (OK fine, your call.) He’d already distributed the handouts of his PPT, waiting for us on the table when we sat down. Not only did he have ALL his talking points up on the screen, he *read through them point by point*. He added NOTHING ELSE to the presentation. I had already read through it all, was bored out of my mind, and tried to keep myself from laying my head on the table and sleeping through the rest of his jabbering. I wasn’t the only one bored, obviously; some people started side conversations, or brought out their laptops and started working/replying to email (or maybe making notes, who knows). The kicker? The *real* reason this guy wanted to be on the floor, was so when he saw someone distracted by tech or talking to others at the table, he would go and STAND OVER THEM until they stopped talking or closed their computer! I hadn’t seen that passive-aggressive tactic of teacher-presence-pressure since middle school. All I could think was “How much did they pay this a**h**e?” First time ever I gave a presenter a “1-star” rating at a conference and I raged on my feedback form about how awful and condescending he was. Cannot even remember the topic, he was that bad. Sorry for the rant. Your post dredged up a memory I’d kept buried for a long time. LOL!
